Of All The Alabama State Parks, Wind Creek State Park Is Among The Most Popular For Fishing
Wind Creek is located on 1,455 acres of land near Alexander City in Tallapoosa County, Alabama.
The park boasts that it has the largest state owned camping ground in the whole of the United States! It has 626 sites all being equipped with a picnic table, grill, water and electricity.
Sixteen more sites have recently been added which are specifically intended for equestrian campers. In addition, there are also seven rental cabins.

Wind Creek S.P. is situated on a 41,000 acre reservoir called Lake Martin and it is this beautiful lake that provides the main attraction for this one of the Alabama State Parks.
The activities are mainly centered on the lake and its shoreline and the park has a wonderful marina with a 210 foot long fishing pier. Obviously boating is an extremely popular pasttime and the marina provides boat rentals and a bait and tackle shop for the fishing enthusiasts.
Lake Martin is so well stocked with fish that a large number of competitions are held at Wind Creek State Park. They include The American Bass Anglers Association and The Georgia Glenn AT&T Pioneer Tournaments.
There are two hiking trails in the park, the Campfire Trail is 1.8 miles long and the Alabama Reunion Trail is 3.8 miles. They take the hiker through a mix of superb environments including hardwood forest which during the spring can be a blaze of colors.
The Woods At Wind Creek S.P. Come Right Down To The Shore Of The Lake
For the equestrian campers staying at the park there is the ten mile long Jeff Reed Horse Trail which meanders through the woods along the shores of the lake.
As well as the wonderful facilities and surroundings at Wind Creek there are a number of other local attractions within a short drive.
The National Military Park at Horseshoe Bend is dedicated to soldiers and Creek Indians who died in the battle there in March 1814.
Cheaha State Park which is closeby has stunning scenery and Mount Cheaha is the highest point in Alabama.
