Warriors Path State Park

Warriors Path State Park Is Located On An Ancient Native American Warpath

This wonderful Tennessee State Park gets its name from an ancient Native American warpath which passes through its grounds. It was used by the Iroquois in their raids against the Cherokee and other enemies.

Warriors Path State Park is sited on 950 acres of land in Sullivan County, north eastern Tennessee and is on the shore of Fort Patrick Henry reservoir, an 872 acre lake created when the South Fork Holston River was dammed in the 1950`s.

The dam was constructed by the Tennessee Valley Authority (T.V.A.) and it was on land which they owned and then sold, that the park was later built.

The facilities here rank among the best of the Tennessee State Parks. There is a superb 18 hole golf course, an Olympic size swimming pool and a marina on the reservoir.

The "Friends of Warriors Path" are a strong, motivated organisation who, over  the years, have worked hard to help improve the park`s facilities. This was the very first of all the American State Parks to create a boundless playground.

The Fort Patrick Henry Reservoir is the location for many of the park`s activities, boating and water skiing both being very popular and there are a number of boat ramps which guests with their own craft can use. Visitors are also able to rent canoes and paddle boats at the marina.

The reservoir is also a great spot for fishing and the waters are well stocked with bass, bream, catfish, crappie and trout.

However, one of the things that brings visitors back to Warriors Path State Park time and again are the quality and diversity of the trails.

The trails cater for every form of activity and range from paved accessible paths to strenuous climbs, they take the visitor through a number of different terrains from woods to wetlands.

There are 12 miles of trails for hikers, over 8 miles for mountain bikers and other trails for horseback riders. Visitors can hire a horse or pony at the park, or they can bring their own as there are stables available if reserved in advance.
