Muskegon State Park

Muskegon State Park Has Over Three Miles Of Shoreline And A Winter Sports ComplexMaking It One Of The Most Popular Of The Michigan State Parks.

Muskegon is 1,233 acres of land situated on the shores of two lakes. The first is the massive Lake Michigan, on which it has a wonderful two mile long sandy beach.

The other is Lake Muskegon from which the park gets its name and which provides it with another mile of shoreline.

Muskegon was established as one of the Michigan State Parks in 1923 when the city of Muskegon made a donation of land to the state.

Open all year round, Muskegon S.P. has a very impressive Winter Sports Complex that features over eleven miles of cross country skiing trails, and ice rink which is used for family skating and ice hockey and, most fun of all, one of only three luge runs in the U.S.A. - and this is the only one open to the public so they can have a go at this exciting sport.

During the summer months campers and guests can enjoy more traditional activities. The miles of pristine sandy beach are obviously agreat draw and some people consider the beaches on Lake Michigan to be among the best in the world. The sand dunes and forests that back the beach are a terrific place to hike and explore.

If you are a fishing or boating enthusiast then you will find Muskegon State Park the place for you. The park provides a fishing tackle rental service for those who don`t bring their own.

As well as going out on a boat to fish you can try for "the big one" from the walkway on the Muskegon Lake Channel or the pier at Snug Harbor. For those that just prefer to go boating there are launches at both of those locations.

The hiking trails at the park are a range of loops that take the walker through a diverse landscape that ranges from sand dunes to marshes and forests. The shortest trail is just under one mile whilst the longest is five miles. During the winter months these hiking trails are used for cross country skiing.

Here is a useful map of the park that you can download. It shows all the facilities and the various trails.
