Echo Lake State Park

Echo Lake State Park Has Possibly The Most Attractive Setting Of All The New Hampshire State Parks

This beautifully situated state park is a day use area, close to the town of Conway in New Hampshire.

Its history dates back to 1943 when a preservation society joined with the state to purchase the lake and protect it from any future commercial development.

The clean, clear waters of this beautiful lake provide a wonderful spot for families to swim and relax in stunning surroundings.

The lake has two notable rock climbing destinations towering over it. One is the 700 feet high granite face of Cathedral Ledge and the other is called White Horse Ledge.

A Winter Scene At The Upper Part Of Echo Lake

From the northern side of the lake there is a trail just over a mile in length called the Bryce Hiking Path. It will take you to the top of Cathedral Ledge where you will have fantastic views out across the Saco River towards the White Mountains. For those that don`t feel up to the hike, there is also a road that leads up to Cathedral Ledge.

There is the longer White Horse Ledge loop trail, 4.2 miles in length, that starts at the beginning of the Bryce Hiking Path and loops around the two Ledges which are very close together.

This wonderful map shows all the trails around Echo Lake. On the eastern side of White Horse Ledge is the White Mountain hotel which is a good place to stop for a drink if you do the longer hike!

Echo Lake Is A Lovely Place For A Family Picnic

Echo Lake State Park is a friendly, intimate place just 118 acres in size. A superb place to take children, it opens for weekends only around the Memorial Day Weekend at the end of May.

It is then open full time through to early in September. The operating hours are weekdays from 9.00 to sunset and from 8.30 to sunset on the weekends.

There is a small entrance fee and when the park is unmanned there is an automatic pay station. Unfortunately the policy is that no pets are allowed.

There is a very easy and enjoyable hiking trail that circles Echo Lake. About a mile in length, it is clearly marked with yellow trail markers and is suitable for family groups.
