Crooked River State Park

One Of The Most Popular State Parks In Georgia

Crooked River State Park is a 500 acre park in Camden County on the Colonial Coast of the southern part of the state of Georgia.

The park stands on the south bank of the Crooked River close to where it flows into the northern end of Cumberland Sound. Although the river is around 26 miles long much of it is tidal.

The Crooked River State Park is popular both with Georgians and visitors from out of state.

People come to enjoy the southern Georgia countryside as well as the coast and the famous "Sea Islands" of which nearby Cumberland Island and Jekyll Island compete to see which is the most popular.

Visitors to the park can either camp or rent one of the eleven well equiped cabins which stand close to the river, two of these cabins are pet friendly

There are also 62 campsites for both RV`s and tents and another pioneer campground which is available to groups only. This ground is pleasantly secluded but has no water or power and groups should be a minimum ten people and a maximum of twenty five.

Other facilities around the Crooked River State Park include five picnic shelters, a group shelter which seats 80 and has air conditioning, restrooms, kitchen and two grills. There is also a boat ramp and docks as well as a nature center and for those who enjoy bird watching, a very smart bird-blind.

Within the park are four great hiking trails, all clearly marked and they take the hiker through some extremely interesting local habitats such as evergreen wetlands, old growth hardwoods, marsh and pinewoods. There are also some designated biking trails and bikes can be hired in the park.

For anglers there is some great salt water fishing to be had and the park loans tackle so budding fishermen can learn and enjoy the sport without having to buy stacks of gear first.
