Crawford State Park

Another Wonderful Site Run By Kansas Wildlife And Parks

Crawford State Park is 500 acres of beautiful Kansas land situated on the banks of a 150 acre lake built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (C.C.C.) in the 1930`s.

The park is located on the edge of the Ozark Mountains in Crawford County, Kansas and is in the south east corner of that state. It is nine miles north of Girard and the nearest town is Farlington.

The valuable work of the C.C.C. is remembered by a wonderful statue erected in their honor and the construction in Crawford State Park of a memorial trail which was dedicated to them in 2005.

Next to the park and connected to it by the Deer Run Interpretive Trail is the Farlington Fish Hatchery. This was constructed shortly after the lake was built. Both the park and the hatchery come under the control of the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism. (KDWPT)

Within the park are six different campgrounds all of which have great views of the lake. Twenty of the sites are connected to water and a 30 amp power source, 25 sites have water and 50 amp power while 38 sites have power only and no water connection.

In addition there are 29 sites for primitive camping. In the Rocky Cove Campground there are four sites for R.V.`s that can be reserved. Next to the beach and swimming area is a shelter with picnic tables that can be booked for special occasions.

The park also has a number of cabins for rent which are on the side of the lake. They are modern, but very attractive and have everything you would need for a great vacation. However, although they are available all year round they must be reserved.

Other recreational facilities at Crawford include fishing, boating, swimming and camping. They have three bath houses, two boat ramps, docks, horse-shoe pits and four trails for hiking and biking. At the marina a restaurant serves great meals at the weekends.

All in all Crawford State Park is a lovely placefor both a short visit or a family vacation.
