Blue Springs State Park

Blue Springs State Park Is One Of The Most Popular Of The Alabama State Parks Because of Its Wonderful Natural Spring

Blue Springs S. P. is located in Barbour County, close to the small town of Clio which is just to the north of Ozark. Sited on 103 acres of land, Blue Springs is one of the smallest of the state parks in Alabama.

It was opened during the mid 1960`s after the state purchased the land from its owner J.D.McLaughlin.

The land was bought and turned into a park because of its main attraction.

This is a natural spring which pumps thousands of gallons of water every hour into two pools which have now been attractively ringed with concrete.

The water from the spring is at a constant year round temperature of 68 degrees, making the pool a popular place for swimmers to cool down during the hot Alabama summer days.

Grassy slopes surround these two pools from which the park received its name. It is a perfect spot for families to enjoy a picnic as well as a swim in the cool water. There are four picnic shelters that groups and families can rent and a large number of tables with BBQ grills located around the pools.

As well as the day use area, visitors are able to camp at Blue Springs. The campground has fifty sites all of which have grills and tables. Some sites are for tents only while others are for RV`s. Seven of the RV sites have sewer hookups. The park also has a number of recreation vehicles available for rent.

Other facilities include a small fishing pond, which has been nicely stocked with bream and catfish and a playground for the kids. For the more enegetic there is a volleyball court and a softball/soccer pitch.

This one of the state parks in Alabama is well worth a visit and a cooling swim in the waters of the natural spring is a must.
